This was back in the ’70’s and involved treking through the scrub with blankets and torches. I’m thrilled the area and welfare of the fairy penguins has been preserved and hope they will find a place in the hearts of the many tourists who visit each year.” |

Andrew Denton
Australian talk show icon, Andrew Denton is a Penguin Foundation Ambassador after his colleagues adopted him a Little Penguin for his birthday.
The ABC’s Enough Rope star is an obvious fan of the Little Penguins on Phillip Island and was delighted to join our growing list of Penguin Foundation Ambassadors.
Here’s what Andrew had to say about his Ambassador role: “as a multiple visitor to Antarctica , I’ve always been a penguin fan and it’s great to be able to play a role in their conservation by promoting the Penguin Foundation and the work that they do. Life’s pretty tough for the little tackers so if I can contribute to helping researchers study their lives, we can hopefully ensure that lots more people can enjoy the natural wonder for the future.”

Dr. Hugh Wirth
Dr Wirth is well known for his commitment to animal welfare. He has been President of the World Society for the Protection of Animals since 2004 and was President of RSPCA Australia between 1980-1983 and again since 1988. He has been National Councillor of RSPCA Australia since 1980 and President of RSPCA Victoria since 1972.

A football legend, Tommy Hafey has coached 4 AFL teams - Richmond , Collingwood, Geelong and the Sydney Swans. He is one of only three coaches to have coached over 500 VFL/AFL games.

The Little Penguins celebrated Valentine’s Day in 2010 by welcoming Fox FM’s radio presenter Jo Stanley as their ambassador.“I’ve always adored the Little Penguins and remember visiting them as a child.“I’m thrilled be able to help the little guys, who from what I hear, get themselves into a little trouble.”Stanley is also now the proud parent of her own Little Penguin through the Adopt a Penguin program. She has named her Penguin Butch and will receive updates on its life throughout the year – including all the mischief it gets up to.

Alan Fletcher
The Little Penguins commemorated the 25th anniversary of the TV series, Neighbours by welcoming actor Alan Fletcher as their latest ambassador.
Fletcher, known the world over for his role as Dr Karl Kennedy in Neighbours.
“I am excited help the Foundation protect these wonderful Australian icons.
Fletcher joins former Neighbours cast member Kylie Minogue, who is also a Penguin Ambassador, in helping the Foundation continue its important work.

Dr. Alasdair Harris
Dr Alasdair Harris was selected as the 2010 Young Conservationist of the Year for his outstanding achievements in marine conservation. He is the founder of Blue Ventures, an organisation dedicated to protecting threatened marine areas and improving the livelihoods of local communities through conservation, education and sustainable tourism.

The Wiggles
The Little Penguins on Phillip Island are wiggling with joy at the annoucement of The Wiggles as their new Penguin Ambassadors.
The Wiggles will celebrate 20 years of children’s entertainment in 2011 and have sold more than 23 million DVDs worldwide and 7 million CDs. They are now seen in nearly 150 countries and are instantly recognised in their distinctive skivvies, Sam (Yellow), Murray (Red), Jeff (Purple) and Anthony (Blue). “We are excited to be able to help such cute little guys who are loved by so many people around the world. The fact that they only weigh 1kg when fully grown is amazing! The Little Penguin colony on Phillip Island is extremely important and we are thrilled to be part of such a worthy and fun charity,” said Blue Wiggle, Anthony.
