Adopt a Penguin
‘Adopt a Penguin’ and connect with the heart of the Penguin Foundation's work in enhancing and preserving Phillip Island's natural environment. Your symbolic adoption funds various research, environment and education programs as well as wildlife rescue and rehabilitation to protect and preserve the islands unique flora and fauna, including little penguins.
Little penguins are the smallest of all penguin species (approx. 33 cms in height, 1 kg in weight) and live along the southern coastline of Australia and New Zealand. The little penguin colony on Phillip Island are wild birds, they spend 80% of their lives at sea swimming and foraging for food, and return to their nesting burrows on Phillip Island to breed, raise chicks, moult and to take a break after days or weeks spent fishing at sea. It is when little penguins return to land, at sunset each day, that visitors are lucky enough to witness them tumbling from the waves, and waddling across the beach and into their colony along the coastline. Human impacts such as introduced predators, over exploitation of marine ecosystems, oil spills, marine pollution and climate change can be dangerous to little penguins and their ecosystem. The more we know about little penguins, the more we can do to protect them. To find out more, visit the about the Penguin Foundation page.
The Penguin Foundation holds a Deductible Gift Recipient status and all contributions are fully tax deductible.
